Easy and Addictive

I'm still figuring out how best to do this blog. I started by writing individual, daily posts on my favorite games. Lately, I've been thinking that's not the best strategy, and so now I'm going to try to write longer, themed posts.

Today's a rainy, cold, lazy day, so the theme of the day is easy and addictive games. These games are easy to learn, easy to control, and super addictive. They're pretty mindless, but it's a challenge to stay alive, so you don't get bored after a few minutes.

Epic Coaster

In Epic Coaster, you control a roller coaster car, jumping from track to track. It's all about timing, but there are fun bonuses to get, and, with the fun graphics and music, it's entertaining just trying to beat your own score.

Tangerine Panic

Those are some giant tangerines! It's all about avoidance, and as time goes on, there are more and more tangerines to dodge. Again, the controls are super easy, but it's tough to last very long--see how long you can survive.

Fishy

Fishy is one of my favorite games ever. It's super easy to play, but pretty hard to win (yes, you can win this one). You start as a tiny fish, and eat your way up. Watch out for the bigger fish, who will chomp you in a second.

Play Fishy.

Robot Wants Trilogy

Robot Wants Kitty (play here)

The first in the series, Robot Wants Kitty introduces you to the format. You have to work your way through the maze to arrive at the kitty, and it's not as easy as you think it will be when you start. You'll have to gather upgrades to jump higher, kill more monsters, and collect keys. It's tough but addicting, and the ending is adorable.

Robot Wants Puppy (play here)

Now that you have the kitty, of course the next step is getting a puppy. For the sequel, the game gets a little more detailed, and the enemies are a little tougher, the upgrades a little better. In this version, the kitty is the weapon, and she's a vicious fighter, helping you to tackle your enemies and get to the prize--puppy!

Robot Wants Ice Cream (play here)

After you have a kitty and a puppy, what else could you want? Only a large scoop of ice cream! In the third re-creation, the game is expanded further, and here, your puppy serves as your faithful aide, firing shots at the strange monsters that blocking you from your precious dairy treat!

This is the Only Level

Another funny elephant game! This is slightly random, and mostly for laughs, but it's fun to figure out how to get your elephant to the end. While there's only one 'level', there are many stages...and once you finish it, you can play the sequel.

Fire Boy and Water Girl

Fire Boy and Water Girl is a game that combines a little bit of everything. It's mostly a puzzle-strategy game, but it plays a little bit like a jumping action game. Fire Boy is controlled with the arrow keys, while Water Girl is controlled with ASWD. It involves a bit of multi-tasking, and sometimes you have to think about your strategy, which makes it a pretty fun way to kill a few hours.

Elite Base Jump

Here's a fun quick game that's all about timing. You hit spacebar to drop your guy, and then again to release your parachute. You want to land before the others, but if you land too hard, you'll lose health or die.

Death Dice

Play as a slightly psychotic stick figure in this addicting game. You have to avoid the falling dice, which will kill you instantly (black dice erupt with special weapons). Simultaneously, you have to eat enough medication to keep alive. If you take too many pills, you go into overdose mode, where the colors become crazy and the dice get bigger.

Corporation Inc

Corporation, Inc is a fun strategy game where you create your own office building, workers included, and build it up into a giant organization. There are lots of aspects to juggle, from keeping your workers efficient and happy to managing the space available (building elevators and restrooms). The game is technically over when you meet all the accomplishments, but you can keep going, perfecting your office building and building up and up to create a skyscraper.
