Easy and Addictive

I'm still figuring out how best to do this blog. I started by writing individual, daily posts on my favorite games. Lately, I've been thinking that's not the best strategy, and so now I'm going to try to write longer, themed posts.

Today's a rainy, cold, lazy day, so the theme of the day is easy and addictive games. These games are easy to learn, easy to control, and super addictive. They're pretty mindless, but it's a challenge to stay alive, so you don't get bored after a few minutes.

Epic Coaster

In Epic Coaster, you control a roller coaster car, jumping from track to track. It's all about timing, but there are fun bonuses to get, and, with the fun graphics and music, it's entertaining just trying to beat your own score.

Tangerine Panic

Those are some giant tangerines! It's all about avoidance, and as time goes on, there are more and more tangerines to dodge. Again, the controls are super easy, but it's tough to last very long--see how long you can survive.

Fishy

Fishy is one of my favorite games ever. It's super easy to play, but pretty hard to win (yes, you can win this one). You start as a tiny fish, and eat your way up. Watch out for the bigger fish, who will chomp you in a second.

Play Fishy.

Robot Wants Trilogy

Robot Wants Kitty (play here)

The first in the series, Robot Wants Kitty introduces you to the format. You have to work your way through the maze to arrive at the kitty, and it's not as easy as you think it will be when you start. You'll have to gather upgrades to jump higher, kill more monsters, and collect keys. It's tough but addicting, and the ending is adorable.

Robot Wants Puppy (play here)

Now that you have the kitty, of course the next step is getting a puppy. For the sequel, the game gets a little more detailed, and the enemies are a little tougher, the upgrades a little better. In this version, the kitty is the weapon, and she's a vicious fighter, helping you to tackle your enemies and get to the prize--puppy!

Robot Wants Ice Cream (play here)

After you have a kitty and a puppy, what else could you want? Only a large scoop of ice cream! In the third re-creation, the game is expanded further, and here, your puppy serves as your faithful aide, firing shots at the strange monsters that blocking you from your precious dairy treat!

Death Dice

Play as a slightly psychotic stick figure in this addicting game. You have to avoid the falling dice, which will kill you instantly (black dice erupt with special weapons). Simultaneously, you have to eat enough medication to keep alive. If you take too many pills, you go into overdose mode, where the colors become crazy and the dice get bigger.

N

N is a simple, fun game (somewhat like Fancy Pants, but a smaller character...and no pants) where you jump through obstacles to collect coins and move through doors to the next level. It's addictive but challenging, and great whether you want to play for 5 minutes or 3 hours.

Play N here.

Cursor*10

Let me warn you: this game is tough. It works a lot like The Company of Myself, where your early lives help out your later lives. You have to work on timing, click fast, and get a little bit of luck to get into the upper levels, but it's pretty addictive, so you'll keep trying (or at least I did).

Play Cursor*10.

Achievement Unlocked

Achievement Unlocked was the first of a series of 'elephant' games I've enjoyed immensely. It's a little off the wall, almost making fun of online games. The game is all about winning all the achievements (listed on the side in a scroll bar). The achievements vary from things like landing a corpse in a particular area to survival times to touching numbers in a particular order. If you can't get all the achievements, you can sneak a peek at the hints.

Achievement Unlocked 2 is the same idea (elephant and all) with more rooms and more to achieve.

Sushi Cat

Sushi Cat is a cute and fun game where you play as a cat trying to eat as much sushi as possible. You drop the cat and it bounces around, catching available food. It's simple but addictive, and although there are many levels, it's something you can play for 5 minutes and then leave it.

Play Sushi Cat here.

Want more? Try Sushi Cat the Honeymoon.

Infectonator

Like Boomshine, this is a simple, addictive click game where you are trying to create a chain reaction. But unlike Boomshine, it's got a story and many more levels. It's also a level-up type game, where you earn coins with each kill, which you can spend on increasing the threat of your virus.

Start with Infectonator.

And if you're still feeling it, Infectonator X-mas edition.

Indestructo Tank

Indestructo Tank is a great random/level up game. You play as a military tank, moving through a field while air forces above you attempt to drop bombs on you. The catch is, you want to be hit by these bombs, and launched into the air to destroy the planes. It's a fun action game, but strategy is important, as you want to maximize your combos while not running out of gas. Also, you have to chose which aircraft you want to buy (there are 5 options), and there are differences between the bombs they drop--so chose carefully.

Play Indestructo Tank here.

Indestructo Tank 2 is here. (I don't think it's as good as the original...too much going on...but if you like #1, try it).

Fancy Pants Adventure

Fancy Pants Adventure is a fun and addictive game, which you can play for five minutes or an hour. The graphics are great (my boyfriend has the most fun making Fancy do flips), the controls are easy and the levels change up so you have new ways to fly Fancy through the air. Plus, once you've been the game the first time, there are trophies and different color pants to win. And of course, it's always fun to try to race through the game as fast as you can.

Play the game here.

Boomshine

Here's a quick review for a quick game. Boomshine is colorful, simple, and deceptively challenging to win. Your goal is to set off a chain reaction to explode as many bubbles as you can. At first it's easy, but it gets hard quickly. See how fast you can win (and then see how long it takes you to beat your score).

Play the game here.

p.s. if you like Boomshine, try out Infectonator. It's the same concept (although presented differently)
